it plays all the way through without stopping but I had to stop and restart, it didnt come back to where I stopped like it used to.
I downloaded the update from Play store and listened to a sermon and the player did not stop until the end. Thank you for figuring out what the problem was and getting it fixed!!

An update is now available in the Play store that fixes this issue.
We have enough user feedback on this now that we can conclusively say that there is a definite problem with the AC Central audio player on Android v.9 devices. Our developers have been notified and will begin working on resolving the issue. Watch for an app update, hopefully soon.
Having the same issue with a Google Pixel 2 on Android version 9. Only way to keep it playing is if we tap the screen every 20 seconds to keep it awake.
Same problem. Don't know exactly when it started because it seemed to do the same thing several weeks ago also. Samsung Note 9. I probably get 5 or less minutes. I can't just push play to resume. I go back and reselect the sermon and sometimes it starts where I left off, sometimes at a previous crash spot. I haven't fully tested but I think if I push the pause/play button before going back and restarting the sermon I get to the most recent spot. Archived and downloaded... Not sure about streaming.
I have also been having this type of problem. It started after a recent Android OS upgrade (version 9.0). The sermon (archived) will play fine until my phone goes into "sleep/lock" mode. The sermon stops playing and I will have to unlock my phone, go back into AC Central and re-select the sermon I was listening to. So far, it usually restarts right at the place where it stopped previously.
This problem happens regardless if I am playing the sermon directly or if I am playing a sermon I previously downloaded. This problem did not happen prior to this last OS upgrade. I am using a Samsung Note 8.
Also, my son has a Samsung 9+ and he is having the same problem.

Is this when streaming live sermons or playing archived sermons?
If you are streaming, what are your internet upload and download speeds?
What is make and model of your device?
What version Operating system are you running?
Is your AC Central app running the latest version?
