The role of the Church vs. the role of the government regarding financial assistance.

I greatly appreciate”Around the Table,” it is wonderful information.  I recently listened to the ”Connectedness During Lockdown” episode and was encouraged to hear all the good things happening.  But I was somewhat disheartened by a comment made, “brothers in church are helping others who are unemployed to apply for government assistance.”  That is not the government’s job, it is the job of the church.  We are commanded to “bear one another’s burdens,” “especially to those who are of the household of faith”  Harvest Call is currently collecting for this very thing.

It seems very helpful to have a discussion on the role of The Church vs the role of the government, on any given topic, but specifically on financial needs.

Thank you very much for your thoughtful and constructive feedback. It is a good point to consider as we think about Galatians 6:2 and the consistent scriptural call for the church to distribute generously to those in need. I will take this up with our elder review team to consider how we can address this issue of church vs. gov't role in area of financial need.

God bless your day!
